Protection of Plant Varieties
The need to provide food and supplies for a growing world population without depleting the planet's natural resources is, undoubtedly, one of the biggest challenges of our time.
Since the advent of agriculture man has improved plant varieties through the discovery and implementation of different techniques, which have evolved over time.
Today, the "Agribusiness" is one of the most important sectors of the Brazilian economy, placing Brazil as one of the largest producers of food and supplies in the world.
The development of plant varieties that are perfectly adapted to the Brazilian climate and soil is one of the greatest achievements of recent years and one of the primary reasons for the privileged position Brazil holds in food production.
Since 1997, Brazil allows, through a unique system based on the Union pour la Protection de las Variétés Vegetales (UPOV), the protection of plant varieties, called "Cultivares" (Brazilian Law No. 9456 of 25.04.1997, Cultivares Law). Under the Ministry of Agriculture, the National Cultivar Protection (SNPC) is responsible for the carrying out, supervision, and coordination of applications, deferrals, and certificates concessions for plant varieties eligible for protection in the country.
We have professionals able to complete the process of obtaining the protection registration of Cultivares at the SNPC.
