NFL in Brazil: Kasznar Leonardos Supports Brand Protection at Historic Rio Game

The NFL made history in Brazil once again this weekend, bringing its first regular-season game to Rio de Janeiro and one of the world’s most iconic sporting venues: Maracanã Stadium.

A crowd of 72,792 fans watched the Baltimore Ravens defeat the Dallas Cowboys 34-31 in a spectacular finish, with a 56-yard field goal as time expired.

For Kasznar Leonardos, the event represented another chapter in our work supporting the NFL in Brazil. Since the league’s first regular-season game in the country in 2024, our team has provided support in connection with intellectual property and Brand Protection matters surrounding these major sporting events.

Protecting Global Brands at Major Sporting Events

Major international sporting events create enormous visibility for leagues, teams and sponsors, but also potential opportunities for unauthorized commercial activity.

The risks go far beyond counterfeit merchandise. They may include unauthorized use of trademarks and logos, unofficial merchandising and ambush marketing, where third parties seek to benefit from the visibility and reputation of an event without holding official sponsorship or association rights.

Effective Brand Protection in this environment therefore involves more than reacting to individual infringements. Preparation, monitoring and coordination with local authorities can all play an important role in protecting intellectual property and the commercial ecosystem surrounding a major event.

In previous NFL games in São Paulo, Kasznar Leonardos worked closely with public authorities on Brand Protection and Antipiracy initiatives. For the league’s first game in Rio, our team once again supported the NFL in connection with the protection of its intellectual property rights.

Key Takeaway

Major-event Brand Protection is not simply about combating counterfeit merchandise. It is about protecting the broader commercial value created around the event, including trademarks, official merchandise, sponsorship rights and authorized commercial associations.

Kasznar Leonardos is proud to have supported the NFL throughout its three years of regular-season games in Brazil and to continue contributing to the protection of intellectual property rights surrounding major international sporting events in the country.
