‘No-one likes this’: Brazilian firms grapple with patent guidelines
Our partner and COO Tatiana Silveira was invited by Managing IP to comment on the recent changes in the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office’s rules, which are impacting the strategies of Intellectual Property firms in Brazil.
The new guidelines related to patent registration processes, came into effect in April 2024. It limits the possibilities of amending patent applications during the appeal phase, making the process more complex and frustrating for professionals.
Tatiana highlights that a process that was already lengthy has become even more complex, noting that clients face difficulties in adjusting their claims according to their commercial interests, which poses a challenge for the firms that advise them.
The article is available in English, only for subscribers, on the Managing IP website. Check it out.
