Updates on PPH Request for the second quarter of 2025
The Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BPTO) has announced new limits for receiving PPH requests in 2025 by means of Ordinance 03/2025 published in Official Gazette 2829 of March 25, 2025.
The most anticipated update is that, starting April 1, 2025, the BPTO will accept PPH requests for applications with the main IPC H04 (telecommunications). However, only 140 PPH requests for IPC H04 will be accepted during the second quarter of 2025. The BPTO may reassess the PPH limits for IPC H04 and other technical fields on a quarterly basis.
In addition, the BPTO kept the annual limit of 3200 requests that will be equally divided into the quarters of 2025, i.e., the limit will be of 800 requests per quarter, as previously announced.
